PSSC holds first part of three-part webinar “Life in Lockdown: Perspectives from Social Scientists”

The Philippine Social Science Council successfully holds the first of its three-part webinar, “Life in Lockdown: Perspectives from Social Scientists” last 15 June  2021. This series seeks to recognize the works or contribution of social scientists during the pandemic and explore their role in solving the country’s most complex issues brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The first part was in partnership with the UP Population Institute and is entitled “Examining the Vaccination Plan and Public Response in the Philippines”. It focuses on the rollout of vaccines, the general measures being taken by the government to vaccinate the Filipino population and how social scientists perceive such measures.

The speakers for the include a presentations from UPPI Director Grace Cruz and medical anthropologist Gideon Lasco. Dr. Cruz’s presentation focuses on perspectives and experiences in vaccinating the older generation of Filipinos. This presentation is based on a research study by the UPPI. For reference, please see her slides below.

Meanwhile, Dr. Lasco presented an assessment of the first 100 days for vaccine rollout. Using a five-level framework, he analyzed the perception and experience of Filipinos towards the government’s efforts to vaccinate the population. For reference, please see his presentation slides below.

This webinar is part of the series, “Life in Lockdown: Perspectives from the Social Scientists” The next webinar will delve on the lived experiences of women in the time of pandemic, while the third one will focus on war on drugs during the pandemic.
